During my summer semester ITEC 7400 class I have studied about many things that will help me be a successful technology leader at my school. In the course, I learned about Levels of Technology Integration and Engaged Learning Indicators. Both of these subjects can contribute to more effective lessons for students and teachers. Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi) are points with which we can assess the use of technology in a lesson or unit. Is the technology being used simply for a productivity tool or is it promoting higher-order thinking skills? We want lessons that use technology effectively and promote student engagement while doing so.
Engaged Learning Indicators are specific points that can also promote student engagement. Including more indicators can help student retention of the content by making it more meaningful. Many of these standards are things that teachers already use, but some of it comes as a surprise. For example, while it might be understandable and go without saying that as a teacher, you’d like for your students to explore and come up with new knowledge on their own. However, you might be surprised to know that having a teacher as a co-learner is also an indicator. Also, work should be challenged may be a given, but having it be authentic for the learner can also promote student learning.
After researching about these, I believe that they are the most important and helpful subjects in the class. I feel sure that I will be utilizing the indicators and levels in my classroom and for the teachers that I assist with technology.
